Indie Pop, yeah. Die Band Noise Addict wurde 1993 von Ben Lee (Vocals, Guitar), Doron Kalinko (Bass) und Josh Zoldan (Drums) in Sydney, Australien gegründet. Alle 3 waren Schüler am Moriah College und im Alter zwischen 14 und 15 Jahren. Bei Fellaheen Records erschien 1993 die EP "The Taste In My Eyes". Noise Addict spielten im Salina’s Nightclub in Sydney als Vorgruppe von Sonic Youth, die gerade eine Australientournee absolvierten, was zur Folge hatte, das ihre zweite EP "DEF" 1993 bei Ecstatic Peace! Records erschien, dem Label von Thurston Moore. Die dritte EP "Young & Jaded" kam 1994 bei Grand Royal Records heraus, dem Label der Beastie Boys. He's got six different flannel shirts / Airwalks not thongs / He even understands the words to Pavement songs / He's got his new guitar toys / He loves Smudge and the Beastie Boys / I wish I was him. Die Band bestand nun aus Ben Lee, Doron Kalinko, Daniel Kohn (Guitar) und Joel Wasserman (Drums). Bei Grand Royal Records erschien 1995 auch das Debütalbum "Meet The Real You", doch bald darauf löste Ben Lee die Band auf. In true punk rock style, as soon as the album came out, Lee broke up the band, schrieb der australische Musikjournalist Ian McFarlane über das Ende der Band. Doron Kalinko hatte Noise Addict aber bereits kurz vor Beginn der Aufnahmen des Albums verlassen, den Bass beim Debütalbum spielt Daniel Mapp. Ben Lee veröffentlichte 1995 bei Grand Royal Records sein erstes Soloalbum "Grandpaw Would". I feel much better now I've let it all out / He's got big biceps and a masculine shout / I don't want to sound like I'm trying to be mean / But he plays guitar much faster than me / I wish I was him. Im Jahr 2009 kehrte Noise Addict mit ihrem zweiten Album "It Was Never About The Audience" überraschend in die Popwelt zurück. Ben Lee schreibt im Booklet: Here is the new Noise Addict album "It Was Never About The Audience". It's the first Noise Addict album in about 14 years. It felt like time for a new one. The line up on this recording is me, Lou Barlow and Lara Meyerratken. That's a new line-up for the band, but the principle is the same: everything recorded quickly, in my bedroom, with lots of stupid arbitrary rules like no mic-stands. The songs were all written by me except "Lasagne" which i wrote with my step-daughter Kate. All songs were written right before they were recorded, except for "Do I Know You?", which was started in 1992 and finished this year. It shouldn't have taken that long. Nic Johns mixed the album at his house in Los Feliz. Enjoy! Lou Barlow ist einigen von euch sicherlich als Mitglied der Band Dinosaur Jr. bekannt und Lara Meyerratken sang und spielte davor Gitarre in den australischen Bands Lustre 4 und Sneeze. Unter dem Pseudonym El May veröffentlichte sie die beiden Soloalben "El May" 2009 und "The Other Person Is You" 2014. Okay, Noise Addict lösten sich bald darauf wieder auf. Ben Lee veröffentlichte zuletzt 2022 das Soloalbum "I'm Fun!" beim Label Warner Music Australia. Im Song "I Wish I Was Him" wird der Musiker Evan Dando von der Band The Lemonheads angehimmelt, yeah. Evan Dando: My high-school dream was to be in a band, pay my rent and eat - and I've been able to do that for 20 years. So I'm completely content. Kathleen Hanna hat 1994 eine wunderschöne Coverversion des Songs "I Wish I Was Him" aufgenommen, sie ist auf der Compilation "Rock Stars Kill" zu finden, die 1994 beim Label Kill Rock Stars erschienen ist. So, jetzt noch 2 Songs aus dem Jahr 1993, die ich leider in dieser Liste vergessen habe, die man sich aber auch unbedingt anhören sollte. "Big Mistake" von den Fellow Travellers und "Metal Process In Work" von Megaptera, yeah. Die Fellow Travellers waren eine Band aus London, die von 1990 bis 1994 insgesamt 6 Alben veröffentlichte und aus Lorraine Morley (Vocals), Jeb Loy Nichols (Vocals, Harmonica, Guitar, Mandolin) und Martin Harrison (Bass, Keyboards) bestand. The world's only country/dub band. Megaptera sind eine Industrial-Band aus Oxelösund, Schweden und wurde 1991 von Mikael Svensson und Magnus Âslund gegründet. Das Debütalbum "Near Death" erschien 1991 beim Label Sound Source, als Dritter war nun auch Peter Nyström mit dabei. Zuletzt erschien von Megaptera 2019 bei Cloister Recordings das Album "A Horse In The Eye Is Part Of The Art", die Band scheint jetzt ein Soloprojekt von Peter Nyström zu sein.
